As a marketing agency, the best compliment we can receive is when a former client moves to a different company and seeks us out to help with that new company’s marketing. Such was the case when we received a call from Kevin Stewart of HALL Contracting Corporation with a request to design a new website for this highly respected Charlotte brand. If you’re unfamiliar with Charlotte, HALL Contracting Corporation has helped lay the foundation for the city for over 50 years. Having attended Queens University of Charlotte in the late 90s, I remember seeing large HALL signs at major construction sites. Today, it feels gratifying to work with a Charlotte business leader that I used to look up to before my professional career began. Most of all, it was an honor to meet Mr. Hall who is a humble leader of an organization that I aspire to replicate with our own company. The longevity of HALL’s employees is indicative of a company that both cares for its people and the clients they work with – values which are important to me.

No matter the business or industry, there is always a language that insiders speak – a nuanced language and set of behaviors that other insiders recognize consciously and subconsciously. As an agency, it’s important that we learn those nuances by doing our own research about the industry, but most importantly spending time with the client outside the virtual realm. If we are working with a local client, we build in time with our projects to visit our clients at their respective offices and observe. Take notes. Listen. In the case of HALL Contracting Corporation, we visited both their corporate office as well as a job site which opened our eyes to more than we could ever have gained in an e-mail or phone call. While we’ll never be experts in the industry, understanding our clients better by listening to the language they speak and observing how they do their work makes for a better-finished product.
When designing websites, we’re always thinking about messaging. Of the many services our clients offer, what’s the most important message that we need to get across to their potential clients? Furthermore, what is our client’s value proposition that makes them stand out and how do we convey that in the simplest and cleanest way possible? With HALL, the client was wishing to a). Improve their brand image online, b) showcase their expertise and accomplishments, and c) showcase their greatest value proposition which is their people. The design to the right was generated with these objectives in mind and was a true collaboration with the client throughout the design process. Having spent so much time with the Mr. Hall and Mr. Stewart, we felt a greater connection and thus, the design process flowed because we better knew and understood them and what they felt was most important.
Working with HALL Contracting Corporation was a joy for our team. Working for clients who are passionate and highly-motivated invigorates us to do great work on their behalf and as is the case with many of our projects, we were sad when this one came to a conclusion.
